Topographical Surveys
A topographic survey maps the shape of the land (contours, elevations, existing structures, vegetation, and utilities) so architects and engineers can design with confidence. Axis Geo-System Consultants delivers accurate, CAD-ready topographic surveys for residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects across Kenya.
What It Involves
Using RTK GNSS receivers, total stations, and drone photogrammetry, we capture ground detail and elevation data across a site and process it into contour maps, digital terrain models, and AutoCAD Civil 3D drawings. These form the base layer that architects, structural engineers, and planners build their designs on.
Our Process
- 1Site reconnaissance and control point establishment
- 2Detail capture of contours, features, and utilities using GNSS/total station/drone
- 3Data processing into a digital terrain model (DTM)
- 4Production of CAD-ready topographic plans and contour maps
- 5Delivery in client-preferred formats (DWG, PDF, shapefile)
Deliverables
- Topographic plan with contours at specified intervals
- Digital terrain model (DTM)
- AutoCAD-compatible drawing files
- Spot heights and feature schedule
Ideal For
- Architects and engineers starting a design
- Developers assessing a site before purchase
- Contractors planning earthworks and drainage
- Government infrastructure planning teams
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a topographic survey take?
For a typical residential or commercial plot, field data collection takes 1-2 days, with processed drawings delivered within 3-5 working days. Larger sites or drone-based surveys of extensive land may take longer depending on area and terrain.
Do I need a topographic survey before building?
Yes. Architects and structural engineers need accurate ground levels and contours to design foundations, drainage, and access roads correctly. Skipping this step is a common cause of costly redesigns during construction.
What's the difference between a topographic survey and a boundary survey?
A boundary (cadastral) survey establishes legal property lines and ownership limits. A topographic survey maps the physical ground detail (elevation, contours, and features) within a site, regardless of ownership boundaries. Projects often need both.
